About Worship

Welcome to Ascension!   When our congregation began its ministry, people came on foot, on horseback and riding atop wagons to sing praises to Jesus Christ.  Today, 276 years later, people still gather from the Savannah area as a Lutheran community of faith to sing praises to Christ, to be fed and nourished by sharing bread and wine and to be sent out in mission to help our neighbors and the world. God has richly blessed Ascension with deeply committed people who have been dedicated to the ministry of proclaiming Christ as Lord and Savior.

What binds us together in our ministry at Ascension is centered around the altar….
…here we lift up God’s Word as our authority and guide…God’s Word proclaimed.
…here we share God’s rich grace in bread and wine where His body and blood are given and shed for us…and these sacraments mark us with His love.
…here we are bonded together in baptism as a community and we are forgiven to bear the fruit of the Spirit.
…here we enter into relationships with one another that are grounded in God’s love for us all.
…here we go out effectively to minister and witness to the Gospel in our daily lives…together and individually.
…here we are called and empowered to serve the world Christ died to save.

At Ascension, we gather as God’s spirit calls us together.  We encounter God’s Word as He speaks to us through readings of the Old and New Testament, through sermons, songs of praise and through prayers.  We share a meal at the Lord’s table as He feeds, nourishes, and sustains us through bread and wine…His body and blood.  God blesses us and sends us in love to go out and serve the world!

We welcome all people to worship with us on Sundays and to celebrate life with us in this ‘Christ-centered Community Serving From the Heart of Savannah!’
