Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”  Luke 18:16

Sunday Church School
Christian Education is the backbone of the ongoing process that is Faith Formation.  Although classes do not meet during the summer, throughout the school year we offer a Christian Education hour for adults, youth and children between the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services.  At 9:45 a.m. we gather in Crumley Hall, the ground floor fellowship space located below the sanctuary, and adults, youth and children break out into classes. This year Pastor Campbell is leading a special intergenerational study outlining the religious framework and societal context for Martin Luther’s Reformation which resulted in our heritage as Lutheran Christians. Youth and children follow their syllabus outlines for the year, and younger children play games and do crafts which relate to the focus scripture of the day.

Confirmation Sunday will be on May 7 this year. The purpose of Confirmation instruction is to develop faithful habits and an understanding of Lutheran theology through classroom studies and participation in youth group activities, servant projects and worship leadership. Weekly Confirmation classes focus on biblical accounts as the scriptures relate to Luther’s Small Catechism. Students are encouraged to attend Campfirmation, held at Lutheridge in the mountains of North Carolina during June.

Our youth participate in all phases of church life, including serving in worship as acolytes and crucifers, and as banner and torch bearers. A special Sunday is designated each year to highlight the active involvement of our youth in service to the church; this year Youth Sunday was May 21. The Resurrection Singers youth choir includes students in 4th grade through high school. During the school year the choir normally rehearses on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m., sings with the Ascension Singers adult choir at the 11:00 a.m. service approximately one Sunday per month and has sung on their own at the 8:30 a.m. service. Pentecost Ringers, our handbell group for teens and adults, holds rehearsals at various times during the year and plays during worship. New members are welcome to join these groups at any time! For information, contact Organist-Choirmaster, Dr. Brian J. Taylor, at or 912.656.0779.
