Caregiving Ministries

“No one can believe how powerful prayer is and what it can effect, except those who have learned it by experience. It is important when we have a need to go to God in prayer.  I know, whenever I have prayed earnestly, that I have been heard and have obtained more than I prayed for.  God sometimes delays, but He always comes.” Martin Luther

Lay Ministry
Lay Ministry members pray for and provide special care to our members during illness and other periods of loss, crisis, or need.  The goal of Lay Ministry is to match volunteer resources with needs in our congregation. They meet the needs of church members through prayer, notes, visits and phone calls and visit our sick and homebound who are unable to attend church services. Contact the church office if you would like to learn how to become a Lay Minister, or if you or a loved one is interested in receiving communion at home or in a care facility.

Circle of Prayer
Our Circle of Prayer is a prayer ministry performed by caring individuals who agree to pray daily for people on a list, and to pray for each other. Praying for others is called Intercessory Prayer. Members agree to follow one commandment—which is that they will not discuss requests received for prayers with anyone outside the group. As the prayer list is updated periodically, an Ascension member or friend may submit the name of a loved one to be added to the list at any time. Please be sure that you have the permission of the person to be included in the prayers before submitting the name. If you want to add someone to the prayer list read during Sunday services and printed in the Sunday bulletin, you need to contact the church office at 912.232.4151 or Some information is needed in order to keep the prayer list current; however, it is not necessary to submit the full name of a person. For example, someone may be added to the list as ‘as member of the church’ or as ‘someone with cancer.’ God is aware of who the prayer is for.

For more information or to participate as a member of the Circle of Prayer, please call Gail Moyer, 912.352.9913.

Card Ministry
Greeting cards are placed on the Card Ministry table in Crumley Hall each week for those in the Ascension faith community who are experiencing various life events. Even though you may not know these members, you do provide a blessing to them when you stop by the table to sign a card. Have questions or want to support this ministry? Please call Gail Moyer, 912.352.9913.
